Rescue and Adoption CEnter Info

Is Valley Oak SPCA a No-Kill Rescue?

Valley Oak SPCA is a 501(c)3 non-profit, No-Kill Rescue and Vet Clinic. Our save rates are listed on our website under Statistics.

What does No-Kill mean?

A no-kill shelter is an animal shelter that does not kill healthy or treatable animals even when the shelter is full, reserving euthanasia for terminally ill animals or those considered dangerous to public safety.

Best Friends Animal Society says:   No-kill is defined as saving every dog and cat in a shelter who can be saved. It means healing the animals who can be healed, treating behaviors that can be treated, and prioritizing safety and a high quality of life for both pets and people in our communities.

It means reducing the number of animals entering shelters through spay/neuter education and services and increasing the number of animals leaving shelters through adoption and other programs that lead to them finding safe places to call home.

When animal shelters and the communities they serve value those objectives, euthanasia is used only as a last resort, when an animal is suffering from an irreparable medical or behavioral condition. No-kill means that an end-of-life decision for a pet is an act of mercy rather than one done for convenience or lack of space.

What is the Process to Adopt a Pet?

You can view our adoptable pets on our website here:  http://www.vospca.org/adoption

All adoptions are by appointment only, click here to make an appointment and submit an adoption application: vospca.org/appointments

Submitting an application and scheduling an appointment does not guarantee adoption approval.  Staff will attempt to contact applicants prior to appointment when incomplete applications are submitted and when the desired pet has been adopted. Our website is updated in real time, if a pet is no longer on the website he/she most likely has been adopted. To ensure the safety and permanency of the adoption, certain pet approvals will require home checks and/or interactions with family pets.

What is Included in an Adoption?

Prior To Adopting, Every Animal Receives:  Spay/Neuter Surgery     Microchip    Dhpp/Hcpch Vaccinations        Rabies Vaccination Bordetella Vaccination    Wellness exam       Flea Treatment   Dewormer    Nail Trim     Goodie Bags (while supplies last)

I have to Surrender My Pet, What Should I do?

We encourage families to explore all resources in order to keep their pet.  We can provide trainers to help with a wide variety of pet issues.  We can also help with medical related issues regarding pet difficulties.  Surrendering your pet should be your last option.

Valley Oak SPCA accepts owner surrenders by appointment only.  Animals will be accepted based on space, temperament and resources available.

Email Keyana Miller to schedule an appointment: kmiller@vospca.org

What does it cost to surrender a pet?

Surrender Fees are:

$100 for an unaltered (not spayed/neutered) pet.

$75 for a spayed/neutered pet.

Emergency Medical surrenders are $150 and will be approved on a case by case basis.

What if I find a kitten or Litter of Kittens?

If we have an open kennel or foster home, we may be able to take in kittens that would otherwise be euthanized at a municipal shelter.  A fee of $20 to cover the felv/fiv test is required at the time of drop off.  A donation of supplies, or monetary donations to help cover the costs of care, is always appreciated.
